A New Smyrna Beach man was in critical condition after he was thrown from his pickup that crashed on Interstate 75 in Columbia County Thursday afternoon.
Winston H. Davis, 57, was taken to Shands at the University of Florida following the crash, which occurred at about 3 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Davis’ pickup hit another vehicle, according to troopers. That driver, Catharine Webb, 55, of Deltona received minor injuries.
Davis had been heading south and was in the interstate’s center lane when his vehicle drifted toward the left lane, officers reported. The motorist then tried to get back in the center lane but lost control of the pickup. It hit the guardrail on the road’s eastern shoulder and rotated. Davis was thrown from the vehicle. The pickup ended up in a ditch on the western side of the road after hitting Webb’s Cadillac.
Davis was not wearing a seat belt, troopers reported. Webb had been buckled up in her car.
